Clinical Opportunities Provided: 

  • Orthopedic Sports Medicine Clinic • Orthopedic & Trauma Clinic • Joint Replacement Clinic • Operating Room Observation and Rotations • Casting/Splinting and DME Rotations • Outpatient Orthopedic Physical Therapy • Other opportunities as available and defined by the Director of the Residency Program. 

 Didactic Opportunities Provided: 

  • Orthopedic Sciences – pathology, fracture, anatomy lectures and clinical series • Orthopedic Grand Rounds – combined with physician fellows and staff (Thursday mornings) • Maine Medical Partners Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Educational Series  • Orthopedic Technologist Certification and/or Preparation • Basic Radiology training • Ultrasound guided injection (preparation and assistance) • PRP Injection (education, preparation and assistance) • Other opportunities as available and defined by the Director of the Residency Program.  

Other Education and Training Opportunities Provided: 

  • Daily contact with clinical providers while assisting with patient care and maintaining Maine Medical Partners core values (MD, DO, PA-C, MA, OTC, RN, PT, and ATC). • Minimum of 50 hours of radiology training in XRAY and MRI Interpretation with physicians and senior Athletic Training/Orthopedic Technologist at both Maine Medical Partners Orthopedics & Sports Medicine as well as with Maine Medical Partners Orthopedic Trauma and Fracture Care and Joint Replacement Centers. • Minimum of 40 Hours of splinting and casting techniques.  • Exposure to pre and post-operative care in the clinical/operative setting. • Exposure to current rehabilitation protocols and concepts throughout the surgical and non-surgical treatment process with rotations through Maine Medical Partners Outpatient Physical Therapy. • Exposure to the operating room with potential to assist orthopedic surgeons, residents or physician assistants with patient positioning, draping, graft preparation, arthroscopic camera positioning, tissue retraction and wound closure, and patient education. • Weekly/Bi-Weekly educational meetings with physicians and allied health care providers (Every Monday morning starting in August and journal club every other Wednesday afternoon). • Participate and attend conferences sponsored by or hosted by Maine Medical Partners Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. • Athletic coverage as designated by community outreach and sponsorship. These experiences may include, but are not limited to, local high schools, colleges/universities, the Maine Red Claws, Old Orchard Beach Surge, and the Maine Marathon.  • Required to obtain certification as an Orthopedic Technologist through the educational components of the residency.
